A one-bedroom apartment directly below our family home, with its own entrance. Built solid, styled ‘beach industrial’, and set up to be a comfortable stay for a few weeks or a six-month posting.

Why ‘The Bunker’

When Category 5 Cyclone Pam crossed Vanuatu in March 2015, this building became a refuge. The apartment, built into the slope of the land, provided a solid, safe shelter for friends and neighbours from the settlement nearby to bunker down and ride out the storm and stay on afterwards while they rebuilt their homes.

Once they were back on their feet, we renovated the space. The name stuck.

The Bunker is now a calm base you can call home while you’re in Port Vila.

The practical bits

On the garden level

The apartment sits directly below our family home and has its own private entrance.

Comfortably furnished

The apartment comes with bedding, linen, gas stove-top, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, crockery, cutlery, and access to own washing machine.

A garden to share

The tropical garden and lagoon outlook are shared with us — and our two dogs, who are very good company.

Made for placements

Many guests are visiting health professionals on placement at the nearby Port Vila Central Hospital.

Long or short

We stepped away from nightly holiday lets years ago. The Bunker suits stays from a few weeks to several months.

Minutes from town

Easy transport and walking options to the town centre, restaurants, markets and the waterfront.

You’ll have company

The garden comes with two resident dogs — and they’re very good company.
